Comment

"1491 AR Dirham (approximately 3g)

C [Common]

Formerly very rare, a large hoard of several thousand dirhams, terminal date 400, reached the market in 1990. Some 10-20% of the hoard coins are dated 385-399, the rest 400, almost always with the month of Muharram, but only the year 400 dirhams have become available in the market in quantities. A few coins are known of Janza 401-404, all extremely rare. Weight & style are relatively uniform, unlike later issues."

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was issued during the reign of al-Fadl I b. Muhammad, who was the founder of the Shaddadid dynasty and ruled over the city of Ganja in present-day Azerbaijan. The coin features an inscription in Arabic that includes the name of the ruler and the date of issue, which can be translated to "al-Fadl I b. Muhammad, 385-404 AH (995-1013 AD)". This coin is a rare example of the currency used during this time period and is highly sought after by collectors and historians.
