Depending on the work, there are 2 different values for a similar weight: Brethes and Méreaux consider that the legal dirham weighs 2.53g; consequently, coins between 1.14 g and 1.35 g are ½ dirhams. Stephen Album (ref A#560) considers these same coins to be 1 dirhams .
Interesting fact
The Dirham coin was issued during the reign of Abu Abd Allah Muhammad II al-Mutawakkil, who was the Sultan of Morocco from 1574 to 1576. During his reign, he implemented several economic reforms, including the introduction of a new currency system that included the Dirham coin. This coin was made of silver and weighed 1.30 grams, and it was used widely in trade and commerce throughout Morocco and other parts of North Africa.
