Reference material generally agrees that this is a Julio-Claudian coin, probably attributable to the Emperor Caligula. However, there is some suggestion that it is actually a much later coin, minted during the reign of Hadrian, based on the fact that the earliest Apis bulls on non-anonymous coins occur during his reign. The Dichalkon coin was used during the reign of Emperor Trajan (AD 98-117) and features an image of the Roman goddess Libertas on one side and a portrait of the emperor on the other.
