Haguenau became an imperial city in 1255 before becoming in 1354 the seat of the prefecture of the ten imperial cities of Alsace. The archives only attest to the existence of a minting workshop from 1403.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during a time of great turmoil in Europe, specifically during the reign of King Louis IX of France, also known as Saint Louis. This period saw a series of conflicts, including the Seventh Crusade, which Louis led in 1248. Despite these challenges, the coin still maintains a high level of craftsmanship and beauty, showcasing the skill of the medieval minting process.
