Comment
Walter Hävernick has attributed this denarius to the Limbourg-sur-la-Lahn workshop, although the attribution to Limbourg-sur-la-Haardt (in today's urban area of Bad Dürkheim in the Palatinate) seems more plausible. The Counts of Leiningen were bailiffs of the Limbourg monastery, a function visible here on the obverse: the Count guards the monastery, seen in the background, with his sword above the door.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during the reign of Emecho IV, who was the Count of Leiningen from 1159 to 1197. During his rule, the County of Leiningen was a significant power in the German States, and this coin was likely used widely in trade and commerce throughout the region.
