Comment

This denier is given in an undetermined mint by Prou, and attributed to Aachen by Depeyrot (according to Morrison, Numismatic Chronicle, 1961). Charles II was crowned King of Lotharingia in 869.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during the reign of Charles II, also known as Charles the Bald, who was the King of West Francia and the Holy Roman Emperor. Despite his powerful positions, Charles II faced numerous challenges during his reign, including Viking raids, internal power struggles, and territorial disputes. Despite these challenges, he was able to maintain his power and influence, and his coinage, such as this denier, remains a testament to his legacy.
