Comment

Though classically thought to be indeterminable between Charlemagne and his grandson Charles the Bald (as both issued the same type at Melle), Simon Coupland has published an article delineating the attribution of deniers of each ruler: crosslet at 1 o'clock in obverse would be for Charlemagne.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Denier - Charlemagne (Melle) (793-812) coin is that it was minted during the reign of Charlemagne, who was the King of the Franks and the first Holy Roman Emperor. Charlemagne was a powerful and influential leader who played a significant role in shaping European history, and his image on the coin reflects his importance and legacy. Additionally, the fact that the coin was made of silver and weighs 1.74 grams suggests that it was a valuable and widely used currency during its time.
