Comment
This coin has two different catalog numbers in in Mehl´s "Die Münzen des Bistums Hildesheim - Teil 1 - Vom Beginn der Prägung bis zum Jahre 1435" because at first just two cut halves of the coin were known which each got a separate number. Like all Brakteats from Hildesheim this is a one year type which after one year had to be exchanged into new pfennig coins for three quarters of its face value.Interesting fact
The Hartbert or Siegfried ND (1199-1221) denier bracteate from the Bishopric of Hildesheim (German States) is interesting because it features a unique blend of Christian and pagan elements in its design. On one side, it depicts a bishop's head, representing the Christian faith, while on the other side, it shows a figure of a pagan deity, possibly Thor or Odin, highlighting the blending of religious beliefs during the early Middle Ages.
