Comment
Daniil Borisovich, the son of Boris Constantinovich, managed to regain the control over Nizhny Novgorod in 1410. During the following few years, the old «heavy» coinage was withdrawn and the new «light» coinage was introduced in the Grand Duchy of Nizhegorod-Suzdal just like in the Grand Duchy of Moscow. The weight of the Nizhegorod denga was reduced more than in Moscow - from about 0.80 to about 0.53 grams (Trostyansky 2009, pages 48, 76). The brother and ally of Daniil Borisovich, Ivan Borisovich, also struck coins in Nizhny Novgorod. You can find the description and photos of the variants at the book Early Russian Coins, 1353-1533 by D. Huletski, K. Petrunin, A. Fishman (2015) page 222
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during the reign of Daniil Borisovich, who was the first prince of Nizhny Novgorod-Suzdal to issue his own coins. This indicates that the principality was becoming increasingly independent from the Golden Horde, which had previously controlled the region's minting of coins.
