Reverse

Curule chair inscribed CAESAR DIC PER bearing wreath.

Script: Latin

Lettering: IMP CAES TRAIAN AVG GER DAC P P REST

Unabridged legend: Imperator Caesar Traianus Augustus Germanicus Dacicus, Pater Patriae, Restituit.

Translation: Supreme commander, Caesar, Trajan, emperor, conqueror of the Germans, conqueror of the Dacians, father of the nation, has restored [this coin].

Comment

The inscription CAESAR DIC PER on the chair might not be present. It is on the original issues of Octavian but seems to be absent from all the coins under Trajan, as if the engraver was copying from a worn example.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features an image of the Roman emperor Octavian (also known as Augustus) on one side, and a depiction of the goddess Diana on the other. This coin was minted during Octavian's reign, which lasted from 27 BC to 14 AD, and it was used as a standard circulation coin throughout the Roman Empire. The coin's design and imagery reflect the cultural and religious values of the Roman Empire during this time period.
