Comment

The gens Memmia was a plebeian family at Rome. The first member of the gens to achieve prominence was Gaius Memmius Gallus, praetor in 173 BC. From the period of the Jugurthine War to the age of Augustus they contributed numerous tribunes to the Republic.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a portrait of Gaius Memmius, a Roman politician and general, on one side, and an image of Imperator Caesar, likely Julius Caesar, on the other side. This coin was minted during a time of political turmoil in Rome, just a few years before the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC. The coin's design and the individuals depicted on it reflect the political tensions and power struggles of the time.
