Comment
The gens Lucretia was a prominent family of the Roman Republic; originally patrician, the gens later included a number of plebeian families. The Lucretii were one of the most ancient gentes, and the wife of Numa Pompilius, the second King of Rome, was named Lucretia. The first of the Lucretii to obtain the consulship was Spurius Lucretius Tricipitinus in 509 BC, the first year of the Republic.
Interesting fact
The Denarius coin featuring Lucretia, also known as the "Trio" denarius, is considered one of the most beautiful coins of the Roman Republic. Its design features a portrait of Lucretia, a legendary Roman noblewoman known for her virtues and beauty, on the obverse (front side), and a depiction of the goddess Venus on the reverse (back side). The coin's design was created by the moneyer Lucius Lucretius Trio, who was known for his artistic skills and attention to detail.
