Comment
The gens Fonteia was a plebeian family at Rome first mentioned toward the end of the third century BC. The first of the Fonteii to obtain the consulship was Gaius Fonteius Capito, consul suffectus in 33 BC.Interesting fact
The Denarius coin , which was minted in 85 BC during the Roman Republic, features a unique design on its reverse side. It depicts a scene of a bull standing on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves. This design was meant to symbolize the strength and power of the Roman Republic, as the bull was considered a symbol of fertility and prosperity in ancient Roman culture. The use of the oak wreath also held significant meaning, as it was associated with the Roman god Jupiter, who was revered as the protector of the state. This design was a departure from the more traditional designs found on earlier Roman coins, which often featured images of gods and goddesses, and it showcases the innovative and artistic approach of the Roman mint during this time period.
