Comment

The gens Clodia, or Claudia, was one of the most prominent patrician houses at Rome. The gens traced its origin to the earliest days of the Roman Republic. The first of the Clodii to obtain the consulship was Appius Clodius Sabinus Regillensis in 495 BC, and from that time its members frequently held the highest offices of the state, both under the Republic and in imperial times.

Interesting fact

The Denarius coin , which features Publius Clodius, is notable for its depiction of a woman on the obverse (front) side. This is unusual for Roman coins of that time period, as they typically featured images of gods or goddesses. The woman depicted is believed to be Clodia, the wife of Publius Clodius, and her inclusion on the coin may have been a way for Clodius to promote his political image as a champion of women's rights.
