Comment

From August 25, 1575, the States of Holland minted a new silver coin, the Dutch daalder, later called the Leeuwendaalder.
Maintaining the principle of the reserve, the new daalder was priced at 32 patards, 3 patards above its intrinsic value, so as to pay the difference into the war fund.
The new currency no longer referred to Philip II.
This fiscal exploitation of the currency brought in about 1 million guilders in the years 1575-1579, a considerable sum for that time.
The Leeuwendaalder was discontinued in 1579 in order to end the forced course in Holland.

Muntalmanak (2006) also mentions an overdate 1601/00/99, albeit with a question mark.

Interesting fact

The "Leeuwendaalder" coin from the Province of Holland (Dutch Republic) was used as a means of payment for Dutch East India Company (VOC) shares.
