Comment

This type called "Daalder" or "Rixdale" in France, comes from the Dutch name "rijksdaalder", itself taken from the name of a currency of the Holy Roman Empire, the Reichsthaler established in 1566.
In the Netherlands it is also called: "Arendrijksdaalder" which translates as "rixdale with the eagle".

At the end of May 1583, the joint mint of the three state cities was moved from Deventer to Kampen. It is known that coins minted in Deventer up to 1583 have a five-pointed star as punctuation. We see the change in 1583 to a split leaf (resembling a long cross), which must probably be related to the new Kampen branch.

A variant of lettering exists for this type (source)

A/ TRIVM* CIVI* IMPE* DAVEN* CAMPEN* ZWO’

R/ RODOL* II* D* G* ELEC* RO* IM* SEM* AVGVS.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the "Arendrijksdaalder" coin is that it was minted during the reign of Rudolph II, who was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1576 to 1612. This coin was issued during a time of great turmoil in Europe, marked by religious conflicts and political tensions. Despite these challenges, the "Arendrijksdaalder" coin remained a popular form of currency throughout the Dutch States, a testament to the region's economic resilience and stability.
