Comment

This is the oldest gold coin of Neuchâtel. The gold used for these coins comes from a chain belonging to the Lady of Chambrier, melted in 1593. The dies of this piece are in the collection of the Numismatic Cabinet of the Museum of Art and History of Neuchâtel. The only surviving piece was stolen from the museum in 1873. It is possible that the piece was then sold to the goldsmith Schwaab, who melted it.
