Comment
In 1688 the price of the gold ant the silver increase by 20%. There was no time to collect and cast the circulating coin. Therefore, by the Law 04AUG1688, the value of the silver and gold coins was also increased by 20%. However, during ~150 years the coinage remains unchanged with the circulating coins having a value ~20% above the face value.
Interesting fact
The Cruzado Novo coin featuring Pedro II of Portugal, minted between 1688 and 1706, has an interesting feature. It contains a unique minting error, known as a "clipped corner." This occurs when a small portion of the coin's edge is accidentally cut off during the minting process, creating a distinctive notch on the coin's rim. While considered a flaw, this error has become a sought-after feature among collectors, making the coin even more valuable and sought after.
