Very few of these early, fine style coins survived the move of the city from its originally elevated location to the plain below, near the sea, where the Dutch School excavated "New Halos".

Interesting fact

The Chalkon coin features a unique design on its obverse side, depicting a horseman riding a horse in a galloping pose. This design was meant to symbolize the importance of horse breeding and trading in ancient Thessaly, where the coin was minted. The horseman is shown with a flowing mane and a long cloak, adding to the dynamic and powerful impression of the coin's design.
