Interesting fact
The Chalkon coin was used in the ancient Greek city of Metapontion, which was located in the region of Lucania (now Basilicata) in southern Italy. Despite being made of bronze, the Chalkon coin was considered a high-value denomination and was used for large transactions, such as buying grain or paying soldiers. Its value was equivalent to 100 drachmas, which was a significant amount at the time.
