The As (Crescent 1; ROMA) coin was part of a series of coins issued during the Roman Republic that featured a crescent moon on the obverse (front) side, which was a symbol of the Roman goddess Luna. This coin, in particular, was issued in 207 BC and features the image of a crescent moon on the obverse, along with the inscription "ROMA" on the reverse (back) side. The use of the crescent moon on Roman coins was a common motif during this time period and was meant to signify the growing power and influence of the Roman Republic.
