Comment
Coins of this type have also been attributed to Lilybaion.
This coin forms part of a considerable series of similar pieces, all with differing magistrates' names/initials/symbols on their reverses. All of these were, presumably, quaestors. Among the most readable are Man. Acilius; Q. Ani...; Naso; Crassipes; et al.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique blend of Punic and Greek influences in its design. The obverse (front) side of the coin depicts a stylized image of a dolphin, which was a common motif in ancient Greek coinage, while the reverse (back) side features a Punic inscription in a style that was typical of Carthaginian coins. This blending of cultural influences reflects the complex history of Sicily during this time period, when the island was a contested territory between the Carthaginian Empire and the Roman Republic.
