Comment

"A2945 AR Abbasi (4.6g), with Shi‘ite kalima obverse, ya karim and the mint & date on reverse

R [Rare]

Dated 1177-1179 and “1170”, the latter presumably fictitious (as is “1155” of Ganja). Prior to 1177, Shirvan was divided into two or more rival principalities, none of which produced coinage. Examples with rather barbarous calligraphy are believed to me contemporary imitations."

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was issued during the reign of Muhammad Sa'id Khan, who was the ruler of the Shirvan Khanate, a khanate that was established in the 16th century in the Caucasus region. The coin features an inscription in Persian that reads "Muhammad Sa'id Khan, Shirvan Khan" and includes the date of its minting, 1177-1179 (1757-1766). This coin is made of silver and weighs 4.43 grams, which was a significant weight for a coin at that time. It is a rare and valuable piece of numismatic history, providing insight into the economic and political systems of the Shirvan Khanate during the 18th century.
