Comment

Issued to fund the Morioka clan war chest.
It is called Yamagata Ginban in the past due to the character 山 stamp on reverse.
At the time, Isshugin silver piece, which weight ½ Monme, was used as the base of calculation, resulting 8 Monme = 1 Ryō. The same calculation also apply to .
They used silver produced from Kosaka Mine, minting from March to August 1868, at the rate of about 150 pieces per day.
Due to the many surviving pieces are still in good quality, it is likely that they are in circulation for very short time, or almost never circulated.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Morioka Ginban 8 Monme coin is that it was minted during the Bakumatsu period, a time of significant cultural and political change in Japan. The coin's design features a unique blend of traditional Japanese and Western influences, reflecting the country's growing exposure to international trade and cultural exchange during this period.
