Comment
This type (KM#300) is erroneously related in the Krause Catalog as Madrid Mint coin, interpreting the Segovia Mintmark (aqueduct) as an M.
Interesting fact
The 8 Escudos coin from Spain, minted in 1717 during the reign of Philip V, has an interesting feature. It has a unique "secret mark" on the reverse side, which is a small letter "S" etched into the exergue (the area below the main design). This mark was added by the mint master to indicate that the coin was struck at the Segovia mint, and it can be found on many coins from this mint during this period. This secret mark was not widely known or publicized at the time, and its discovery has been a topic of interest among numismatists and collectors.
