Comment
This coin was found in an excavation site in Hämeenlinna in 1957, only one has been found so far.The coins struck at Åbo, nowadays the city of Turku, were some of the first coins struck in Finland. With Finland being part of the Swedish Kingdom, the coins were most likely meant to circulate within the entire kingdom; however, there has been some disputes saying these coins were actually local issues of Turku. Even so, more evidence in needed to support that claim.
Interesting fact
The 6 Penningar coin from Sweden, minted during the reign of Erik of Pommern (1410-1439), features an interesting fact. Despite being made of silver, the coin was not minted in Sweden but instead in Åbo (now known as Turku), Finland. This highlights the historical significance of Åbo as a major trading center and minting location in the region.
