Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 6 Pence - George VI (3rd type) 1948-1952 coin from New Zealand is that it was designed by sculptor and medallist, Edgar Bertram MacKennal. MacKennal's design features a portrait of King George VI on the obverse (front) side of the coin, while the reverse (back) side features a depiction of a Maori warrior holding a taiaha (a traditional Maori weapon). This design was chosen to commemorate the centennial of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, which was a treaty signed between the British Crown and Maori chiefs in 1840 that established British sovereignty over New Zealand.
