Comment
There were just three pieces struck of this trial sixpence in gold, each with its coinage number hand-etched into the reverse. Though there were only three pieces struck, it is interesting to note that all three were rendered on non-uniform flans. Wilson & Rasmussen provide the weights of each of the examples: #1 weighs 2.89 grams, #2 weighs 3.05 grams, and #3 weighs 3.98 grams. This variance of weights further indicates that this was a trial striking. While the #1 weighs roughly the same as a regular issue sixpence, it is curious that the mint workers decided on the need to strike heavier examples.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Pattern 6 Pence - George V (2nd coinage; Pattern) 1924 from United Kingdom is that it was designed by sculptor and medallist Edgar Bertram MacKennal. MacKennal was a prominent artist of his time, known for his work on various coins, medals, and memorials. He was also responsible for designing the reverse of the coin, which features a crowned shield with the inscription "GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF: IND: IMP:". This coin is a rare and valuable piece, with only 300 minted, making it a sought-after collector's item.
