Saïd Mohamed Ben Chech Abdallah Cheikh, known as Saïd Mohamed Cheikh, born on April 7, 1904 in Mitsamiouli (Grande Comore) and died on March 16, 1970 in Soavinandriana (Madagascar), was a politician from the Comoros, then a French territory. A doctor from the island of Grande Comore, he was elected deputy to the Constituent Assembly of the French Republic in 1945 on a center-left list, then deputy to the French Fourth Republic on a center-left list. Working for the autonomy of the Comorian archipelago within the Republic, he obtained the creation of the Territory of the Comoros in 1946. He was re-elected in 1958 on a Gaullist list, when the Fifth Republic was created. That same year, he was elected head of the archipelago's governing council, a post he held until his death in Madagascar in 1970. Cheikhisme" was a period of authoritarian stability in the history of the Comoros, before the transition to full independence. (Source : www.wikipedia.org)
