People's Republic Battle of Guandu - Series II gold Proof 500 Yuan 1996, KM965, Fr-169. Edge Numbered: 045. Mintage: 99. Struck as a part of seven-coin series issued in 1996 to recognize classic Chinese literature, the present issue specifically commemorates author Luo Guanzhong (ca. 1330-1400) and his work The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The novel's theme, loosely based on the events that surrounded the fall of Han Dynasty, is delightfully interwoven into the design with three stages of the Battle of Guandu depicted on one side. An essentially flawless representative with deeply contrasted fields and highpoints that have obviously been preserved with care. Very rare in this denomination and because of this, an incredibly desirable issue for the advanced collector of modern-era Chinese coinage.

Interesting fact

The 1996 People's Republic of China 500 Yuan Gold Bullion Coin (Battle of Guandu) has a unique feature - it has a square hole in the center, which is uncommon for coins.
