OBVERSE: The Chrysanthemum Throne, a term for the Imperial throne of Japan (Takamikura) has been used in ceremonies since the Nara period (AD 710-794).
REVERSE: The Imperial Emblem of Japan, known as the Chrysanthemum Flower Emblem, is surrounded by a stem of Betula grossa, commonly known as Japanese cherry birch, and another stem of Rosa rugosa, also known as Japanese rose.
