Comment

The seventh design in The Queen's Beast series which began in 2016, there are 10 Beasts in total which are a representation of the statues that stood in Westminster Abbey on the Queen's Coronation in 1953. The statues are now on display in the Canadian Museum of History.

The White Lion of Mortimer joins the Black Bull of Clarence as heraldic beasts from the House of York. The White Lion comes to Queen Elizabeth II through King Edward IV, the first monarch from the House of York. His grandmother, Anne de Mortimer, was the one responsible for passing the White Lion and associated symbols down to King Edward IV, and his brother King Richard III.

For the White Lion of Mortimer there are currently 12 different issues of varying metals, denominations and years of issue, which all share Jody Clark's design.
Issue limit: 120.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the coin is that the White Lion of Mortimer, featured on the reverse side of the coin, is a symbol of the British monarchy and has been associated with the royal family for centuries. It is said to have been a symbol of King Edward IV, who ruled England from 1461 to 1470 and again from 1471 to 1483. The lion is depicted holding a shield with the Mortimer arms, which are said to have been used by the king's ancestors. The inclusion of the White Lion of Mortimer on the coin is a nod to the rich history and heritage of the British monarchy.
