Comment

Errors reported by Giovanni Attardi in the book "Variants and errors in the coins of the Italian Republic" second edition 2002/2003:

1958 surrounding legend ITALIANA REPUBBLICA (Artemide auction no. 3 of 5 September 1996)

1958 with the flags against the wind on the obverse as in the trial strike of 1957 (N#141785)

1966 obverse with vanishing lettering and last ship; without flags on the masts of the other two; and without crosses on the sails.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 500 Lire coin from Italy made of Silver (.835) and Copper (.165) weighing 11g is that it was designed by Italian sculptor and engraver, Giuseppe Romagnoli. The coin features a portrait of Italian statesman, Alcide De Gasperi, on the obverse, and the reverse depicts the Castel del Monte, a 13th-century castle in Puglia, Italy.
