Interesting fact
The coin features a portrait of Jean Jaures, a French politician and leader of the French Section of the Workers' International, on its obverse side. Jaures was a prominent figure in the French socialist movement and played a key role in the development of the French Left. He was assassinated in 1914, just before the outbreak of World War I. The coin was issued in 1999 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Jaures' birth.
