The enactment of the British North America Act was a pivotal moment in Canadian history. The vision of Confederation delegates meeting in Charlottetown, Quebec City and London, this constitutional act was the starting point for the unification of the British North American colonies into a single political entity: the Dominion of Canada. In 1867, the four founding provinces of Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec joined forces to form the Dominion of Canada. Subsequently, Manitoba (1870), the Northwest Territories (1870), British Columbia (1871), Prince Edward Island (1873), Yukon (1898), Alberta (1905), Saskatchewan (1905), Newfoundland and Labrador (1949) and Nunavut (1999) successively joined Confederation. The provisions of the Act provided a framework for the new nation, based on the federal union of the provinces, and defined Canada's executive, legislative and judicial systems. They also established the division of federal and provincial powers. In a way, Confederation is the cornerstone of today's Canada.
The 150th anniversary of Confederation is an extraordinary event for all Canadians, from coast to coast. This great historic milestone is the perfect time to reflect together on our past, feel the pride we take in our shared values and achievements, and imagine a future filled with hope for our country.
Packaging
The piece is presented in a circular capsule. Made from interlocking wood grain, the delightful box bears the Mint's logo and wordmark, and its design allows you to showcase the great beauty of your coin as you see fit. You can display the coin in the box itself - a perfectly sized round acrylic window has been integrated into the lid - or insert it into the custom-made frame it contains. The piece's certificate, an 8" (20cm) square, is located beneath the display compartment, in a special spring-loaded drawer. The inside of the box, entirely flock-coated, has the appearance of black velvet. The box is housed in a customized case and delivered in a protective NanukTM shipping box made in Canada.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the coin is that it has a unique reverse design that features a maple leaf made up of 12 different icons, each representing a different province and territory in Canada. The icons are arranged in a way that creates a sense of movement and unity, symbolizing the diversity and unity of the country.
