Comment

This coin is rare in the original packaging. Held just weeks before the 1997 session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the Specialized Inter-Parliamentary Conference to the theme “Towards Partnership between Men and Women in Politics” was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in New Delhi from 14 to 18 February 1997 on the invitation of the Parliament of India. The President of India, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, inaugurated the conference, which was the first worldwide political meeting on the follow-up to the Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing in September 1995. The Indian Government released a stamp as well as a coin set representing a man and woman representing partnership. The coin and stamp have become part of the collection of the National Museum of India (New Delhi). These coins were distributed only to the dignitaries who attended.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Non-circulating coin 50 Rupees (Inter Parliamentary Conference) 1997 from India made of Copper-nickel weighing 30g is that it features the national emblem of India, which is a lion standing on the Ashoka Chakra, a wheel with 24 spokes. This emblem is a symbol of the country's rich history and cultural heritage.
