Dr. Pfau was an emblem of devotion, commitment and service to Pakistan. Her untiring efforts brought leprosy under control and Pakistan became the first country in Asia to earn this status. Dr.Pfau’s contribution to the society was gratefully acknowledged by the people and state during her lifetime.
She was awarded Hilal-i- Imtiaz, Nishan-i-Quaid –i-Azam and Hilal-i-Pakistan.
Interesting fact
The 50 Rupees (Dr. Ruth Pfau) 2017 coin from Pakistan was issued to commemorate the services of Dr. Ruth Pfau, a German-Pakistani physician and nun who dedicated her life to fighting leprosy in Pakistan. She was fondly known as "Pakistan's Mother Teresa" and was awarded the country's highest civilian honor, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, for her tireless efforts in eradicating the disease. The coin features an image of Dr. Pfau on one side and the Pakistani national emblem on the other.
