The sable, an extremely quick animal with exquisite fur, lives in coniferous forests from the north of the Ural mountains to the Pacific ocean. Russians have hunted the sable, highly valued for its fur, since olden times and the animal is represented in the coat of arms of the old Russian cities of Irkutsk, Yakutsk and Verkhoturye.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a rare design, with a sable (a small mammal native to Russia) on the obverse side, and the Russian coat of arms on the reverse side. This design was created by the prominent Russian artist, Yuriy Kharuk, and it's considered one of the most beautiful coin designs in the world.
