The book miniature painting with the image of the angel – the symbol of Matthew the Evangelist – is one of illustrations created by Andrew Rublyev for the Khitrovo-Gospel. Till 1920, the ancient manuscript Khitrovo-Gospel was deposited in the Holy Trinity-Saint Sergius Lavra, nowadays it is stored in the Russian State Library.
