Comment

Pinzón brothers, naturals of Palos, the port from where the Columbus fleet departed, were seamen who shared the discovery of America along with Christopher Columbus. They were captains of the ships La Pinta and la Niña, while Columbus (captain of the expedition) were of the Santa María. A third brother, Francisco Martín, also participated the expedition as master.

In fact Pinzón was the mother's last name, and father's was Yáñez, but they are more referred as Pinzón, and sometimes as Yáñez Pinzón, rarely as Yáñez alone.

Interesting fact

The 50 Pesos (Pinzón Brothers) 1991 gold coin from Cuba features the image of two indigenous brothers, Francisco and Gonzalo Pinzón, who were instrumental in the discovery of Cuba by Christopher Columbus in 1492.
