Comment

This gold proof is unique as only 1 was minted and presented to the artist.

The design was also used on the 2011 issues in copper-nickel and silver. A gold piedfort was struck in 2012 as an Olympic Medal Winners Edition.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 50p Tennis coin is that it was designed by sculptor and coin designer, Ian Rank-Broadley. He is known for his portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II on British coins, and this particular design features a young Queen Elizabeth II in a tennis outfit, holding a tennis racket and ball. The coin was issued to commemorate the 2011 Wimbledon Championship and is considered a rare and collectible item among coin enthusiasts.
