First issued in 2007 with Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait to commemorate the centenary of the Scouting Movement and reissued in 2009 as part of the 16-piece sets to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 50 pence denomination.The 2019 issue features Jody Clark's fifth portrait and forms part of the 5-coin British Culture set celebrating 50 years of the 50p. This design was also struck in copper-nickel, silver piedfort, gold proof and gold piedfort.
