Comment
On 2017, 950 of these coins were sold in sets (four species of Penguin) straight from the mint, but in circulation quality.250 coins were sent for circulation in the Falkland Islands. making these technically "circulating commemoratives".
This coin is uncoloured ; the coloured versions issued earlier in the year were not intended for circulation and are numismatic products rather than circulating commemoratives.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Falkland Islands' 50p coin featuring King Penguin is that it's the first coin in the history of the Falkland Islands to feature a penguin species. The coin was issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the King Penguin's reign and features an image of the penguin on the reverse side, with Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The coin's design was created by local artist and conservationist, Dr. Mike Bingham.
