Comment
The featured Great Pagoda at Kew was built in 1762 as a gift for Princess Augusta. Issued as part of the Annual Silver Piedfort Set for 2009 (no sales data), as well as individually (2,967 sales), the design was reused in 2019 although it featured Jody Clark's fifth portrait and was released as part of the 5-coin British Culture Sets celebrating 50 years of the 50p. This design was also struck in copper-nickel, silver proof, gold proof and gold piedfort.©The Royal Mint, 2009
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Kew Gardens 50p coin is that it is one of the rarest and most valuable coins in the UK, with only 210,000 minted. It features a design of the famous Kew Gardens in London and is made of silver (.925). Due to its rarity and the fact that it was not circulated, it is highly sought after by collectors and can sell for thousands of pounds.
