HMS Victory is the world’s oldest naval ship still in commission. Having never been officially decommissioned, it’s now in its 245th year of service.
She has been in dry dock for 100 years, but is the flagship of the First Sea Lord, the military head of the Royal Navy.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design that commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, which took place on October 21, 1805. The design depicts HMS Victory, the flagship of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, firing its cannons during the battle. This coin is a special edition released by Jersey, one of the British Crown dependencies, and is made of copper-nickel, weighing 8 grams.
