Comment
This is the first-ever 50 pence coin issued by British Antarctic Territory.
The coin has been partially coloured on the reverse by the manufacturer, Pobjoy Mint.
AUV alone has been coloured, using tones of yellow and orange.
All 6000 coins were issued in sealed packs as shown in photos.
Although reports of a silver version exist (KM#28a) this coin was only minted in copper-nickel.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Boaty McBoatface coin is that it was created as a result of a public poll conducted by the British Antarctic Territory in 2016, where the name "Boaty McBoatface" won the most votes among several other options. The name was originally suggested by a former BBC presenter, James Hand, as a joke, but it ended up becoming the official name of the research vessel that the coin commemorates.
