First issued in 2006 with Ian Rank-Broadley's 4th portrait, reissued in 2009 in the 16-piece sets to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 50 pence denomination.This 2019 issue features Jody Clark's fifth obverse portrait and forms part of the 5-coin British Military Set celebrating 50 years of the 50p it was available in Proof sets (issue limit: 3,500) as well as in a Brilliant Uncirculated Set (9,902 sales) and available to third parties as BU individually (22,500 sales).

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reverse design, showcasing the Victoria Cross, which is the highest military decoration for valour in the face of the enemy given to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces. The coin was issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Victoria Cross, and the design includes the words "For Valour" inscribed above the medal, and the year "1856" and "2019" on either side of the medal, signifying the year the Victoria Cross was first awarded and the year the coin was issued, respectively.
