This is the fifth time The Snowman has been celebrated on a UK coin. Issued as individual pieces, the mintage comprised a Royal Mint pack with Greetings card (17,565 sales) and in trade packaging for third parties (44,664 sales). The design was also struck in colourised copper-nickel, silver proof and gold proof.
This strike was issued after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II but the design continued to bear the image of The Queen, in support of His Majesty the King's ambition for a sustainable transition. This ensured minimal environmental impact as the designs, tools and packaging for these products had already been produced.
Interesting fact
The Snowman and The Snowdog 50p coin is a special commemorative coin released in 2022 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the beloved children's book "The Snowman" by Raymond Briggs. The coin features a design depicting the Snowman and the Snowdog, which were created by Briggs, and is a unique addition to the Royal Mint's collection of coins.
