Comment
In 1982, 11 years after Decimalisation Day on 15th February 1971, the word 'NEW' was removed from the denomination on the reverse, so the legend now reads 'FIFTY PENCE'.1984 dated pieces were not struck for circulation and can only be found in Royal Mint annual Brilliant Uncirculated & Proof sets.

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 50p coin with the second portrait of Elizabeth II (1982-1984) is that it was the first coin to feature the new portrait of the Queen, which was designed by sculptor Raphael Maklouf. The new portrait was introduced to replace the previous portrait by Arnold Machin, which had been used on British coins since 1968. The Maklouf portrait was used on British coins until 1997, when it was replaced by a new portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley.
