Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 50 Paise (50th Year of Independence) 1997 circulating commemorative coin from India is that it was the first coin in the country to feature the national emblem of India, which is a lion standing on the Ashoka Chakra, a wheel with 24 spokes. This emblem was adopted as the national emblem of India in 1950, after the country gained independence from British rule. The coin's design, which features the national emblem on one side and the value of 50 paise on the other, was created by the Indian sculptor and artist, Chintamoni Kar.
